Illinois arrest records are in the public domain and therefore anyone is entitled to have access to them. Today actually obtaining copies of these records is fairly easy and in some cases are available to be had free of charge. Although you may find with some companies who will carry out searches for you of arrest records they do charge a nominal fee for this type of service.

The main place you should start searching for Illinois criminal records is with the Illinois State Police who hold information relating to all criminal matters. But in order to carry out a search they will first require you to pay a fee of $16.00. Along with the State Police you could try one of the states Circuit Courts as well. Jackson County has a database and will charge a fee of $12.95 for people to search for information that they require.

All law enforcement agencies not just in the State of Illinois but throughout the USA are required to keep their criminal databases updated and maintained correctly. The information that they collect will often then be shared with other law enforcement agencies along with the courts and some individuals as well.

The information which is held on these databases should be either updated on a daily, monthly or quarterly basis by the person charged with doing so. So just how good the arrest records information is will depend upon how well maintained and updated the database is.

When it comes to Illinois criminal records the information that has been collected has shown that theirs is still above the national rates. This is quite strange as the state has actually seen a decrease in the number of arrests that have been made. Records show that between 1990 and 2002 there was a 28% decrease in the number of arrests made in the State of Illinois. In 1990 it was shown that 1,237 people were arrested per 100,000 of the state’s population. Yet by 2002 this figure had decreased to 894 which is quite a substantial drop during the 12 year period.

Even as a whole the State of Illinois has seen a marked decrease in the number of arrests being made between 1990 and 2002 there are some counties within the state that their arrest records show an increase. Of the 102 counties which make up the State of Illinois a total of 43 showed a marked increase in the arrests made, whilst only 17 showed a decrease. As for the other 42 counties there were not changes whatsoever in the number of arrests that were made in them.

When you take a closer look at the State of Illinois public arrest records for the period from 1995 to 2002 you will be amazed to see that the number of counties where increases have occurred has fallen from 43 to 8. Of these eight, seven of the counties where there have been increases in the arrests made are rural ones.
